    Description

    Handmade, exquisitely crafted tupo, a peacock pin with gorgeous hand-poured deep-blue glass gem. This detailed peacock tupo was made mixing Bolivian Silver and bronze, silver is
    80%. It is unmarked and unsigned, which is the case with all tupos, as they date to the 19
    th
    century. The metal is made from a
    ntique and vintage tribal coin silver pieces and range from 60% to 80% purity (tribal silver is often made of melted colonial coins and rarely marked)
    .
    Tupos were worn by women of Peru, Bolivia, and Chile to fasten their shawls, against the chill winds of the Andean highlands. This piece of Spanish Colonial / South American folk art is a mixture of indigenous design and the Spanish colonial influence and these jewelry art are becoming quite scarce. The original tupo was converted into a stunning statement necklace, guaranteed to be unique and only one available.
    This original exquisite tupo is in a perfect antique condition. It has the original long pin behind, which was slightly bent inwards and curled not to damage the clothing or hurt its owner. The last photo shows the back-side of the tupo and it's pin.
    It is made to be perfectly safe to wear as a necklace. The clasp is decorative push-in box clasp with a large sparkling rhinestone and marcasites.
